History

Uncle Bills was started in 1964 in the family home on Fort St. by its founder William H. McTaggart Sr. The starting inventory consisted of 10 Yale Ogron windows and 40 Gallons of Glidden Paints. In 1964 Bill visited the Glidden Factory in Jamaica, West Indies Paints which and negotiated a deal to import Glidden Paints from them for Uncle Bills. In the late 70’s due to Jamaica’s inability to access the raw materials needed to manufacture paint, supplies became limited forcing Uncle Bill to secure another Manufacturer. Uncle Bill’s search led him to SCM International the US manufacturer of Glidden products. He made a trip in 1979 to their Manufacturing Plant in Cleveland Ohio and it was on this trip that he was able to negotiate the exclusive rights to Glidden Paints for the Cayman Islands. The Glidden Company has gone through many transitions and acquisitions throughout the years but Uncle Bills has remained committed and loyal to the product.
